Just like everything owned by the Facebook company, Instagram is a really big deal. With over 500 million followers, the picture- sharing network seems to be taking no prisoners in its quest to conquer the social media world. Here are some ways you too can conquer ‘insta-territory’:
GET personal: People love the idea of love. Photos of your significant other or little one are bound to get more likes than any other photos you might upload. Just be sure to walk the fine line between privacy and publicity.
Posting time: You might not believe it, but the number of instagram likes and subsequently followership you get has a lot to do with the day and time of the post. Research shows that photos posted at 2am or 5pm, as well as Sundays get much more attention than others.
Magic in the hashtag
Use popular hashtags like #FF (Follow Friday), #instafollow, #l4l (Like for like), #tagforlikes and #followback. They are known to help increase followers.
Share on your other platforms: If you have many friends on facebook, twitter and other platforms, leverage on those relationships. Publicize your instagram account on your other platforms.
Picture quality: The quality of your photos is very important. Pictures which show faces have a 35 percent more chance of being liked than those that don’t. Photos that have 65-85% light get 24% more likes than those that are less than 45% light.
Carve a niche: You could be the go-to person for food, fashion, family advice, business advice or something else altogether. Just set a niche for yourself so much so that anyone who wants photos on that particular topic would go to you.
Hold a contest: This is one sure way to get more followers. Offer the winners of the contest prizes, get contestants to tag you and get as many likes as possible
As you do unto others: Learn to like, comment and regrann other posts and follow as many people as you deem important.
Multiple photos: You could use an app like picmix to combine multiple photos and get the maximum effect
Influencers & Celebrities
Get social media influencers to tag you in their posts or regrann your photos.
If you do come across a Celebrity, take a selfie, tag and post.
Videos: Instagram lets you upload photos that are up to one minute long, take advantage of the opportunity.
Consistency: Don’t be afraid to post good pictures often. Find out the sort of photos that get the most likes and upload such even more consistently.
